Loki is the son of giant Farbauti and Laufey and blood-sworn brother of Odinn. Loki is the father with the giantess Angrboða (“Anguish-Boding”), of Hel, the goddess of the underworld; Jormungandr, the great serpent who slays Thor during Ragnarok; and Fenrir, the wolf who bites off one of the hand of Tyr and who kills Odinn during Ragnarok. He is a trickster god, and is said to have a fickle nature. He is also a masterful shapeshifter. Since he is of strong Jotunn (giant) heritage – his magic is flowing through his veins granting him many extraordinary abilities. But more than his abilities, Loki is revered for his brains. Odinn is very fond of him, as no one can make him laugh like Loki can, and him and Thor have underwent many adventures together. Loki is responsible for a lot of mischief, but he is also responsible for the creation of Thor’s Hammer and the fortification of Asgard; oh, and he is also the mother of Sleipnir – Odinn’s faithful horse. Loki has an extraordinary sense of humor! He values pleasure, you could say that he is a hedonist, but he is also a fierce protector of children. Loki is all over the place, his green eyes hold the everlasting glint of mischief and his curved lips portray the wickedest of smiles waiting to emerge into the full-blown laughter. His hair is the color of fire, and it is said for ginger people that they are Loki’s descendants – since they are kissed with fire. It is said that Loki is the most handsome of the gods, and almost none can resist his allure. Loki is a part of the self-fulfilling prophecy, and as such he had the unfortunate role of playing the villain in the events of Ragnarok. When the battle for the world is fought, he and the god Heimdall mortally wound each other. In the events preceding Ragnarok, Loki was tied to three rocks inside a cave with a chain from the entrails of his own son Narfi that he had with his loyal and loving wife Sigyn. A venomous serpent sits above him, dripping poison onto him and Sigyn sits beside him with a bowl to catch the venom. But when the bowl becomes full she has to leave his side to pour it out. When this happens, the drops of venom that fall onto him cause him to writhe in agony, and these convulsions are so strong that they create earthquakes. And in this state he lies until breaking free at Ragnarok. So, for some Loki is a controversial god, for me, he is a chief piece on the board of Orlog that plays a crucial role in a self-fulfilling prophecy. People tend to forget that he is a blood-sworn brother to Odinn and Thor’s accomplice in many adventures. He is a loving father and protector of children. Yes, he is fond of mischief, but he also brings divine gifts through his mischievous endeavors, and most of all – he brings heartfelt laughter in the darkest of situations – thus bringing light where is most needed! Loki’s energy gifts thinking outside the box, broadens horizons, fortifies sense of humor, makes you laugh at least once a day from the pit of your stomach, and keeps the depression at bay. He’s warm and bright and full of delights.
