Thor the mighty god of thunder, son of Odin and Jord. He is the archetype of a loyal and honorable warrior, the ideal toward which the average human warrior aspired. He is the defender of the Aesir and Asgard – their divine realm where they reside in their halls. Thor’s courage and sense of duty are unshakeable, and his physical strength is unmatched. Tanngrisnir ("teeth-barer, snarler") and Tanngnjóstr ("teeth grinder") are the goats who pull the Thor's chariot. Thor is appealed to by those in need of protection, comfort, and the blessing and hallowing of places, things, and events. He is also called upon to hallow weddings. He destroys negative influences and dark forces of chaos. He banishes evil and brings purification. Thor is also a god of fertility and agriculture – so he also bestows blessings of fruitfulness and abundance. He is the guardian and strength-giver.
